Great Beauty Tips™: Day Four

by Tammy Doering on November 29, 2016

Hello Everyone! I pray all of you are maintaining your sanity during this ‘magical’ holiday season. It’s always amazing to me how much effort is put into Christmas! I have personally put over 3000 lights on Christmas trees, hung hundreds of ornaments, put out wreaths, decorated the kitchen and the office – all for ONE day! And I keep doing it every year! Then I get to put it all back up. But, Christmas just ain’t Christmas without all the ‘muss-n-fuss’ and serious bling. Just glad I didn’t have to do the outside of the house, too. My hubby gets that job!

Yesterday, we talked about Nail Fungus, what it is and how you can get it. Today I’d like to talk about how to how to prevent it from spreading or re-infecting yourself :

Prevention starts with knowledge. As a Manicurist Instructor I have studied the hands and feet in-depth. It never ceases to amaze me how many people have never really been properly trained on nail care, especially toenail care.

Soak Feet in warm water with Dead Sea Salts for 10 to 20 minutes to soften thick or brittle toenails. This will minimize splitting, splintering or breaking off improperly. If you don’t have thick nails, always trim after a bath or a shower.

DO NOT trim toenails too short! You want at least one 1/16th of an inch of nail above the edge of the nail bed. This will prevent the nail growing into the skin, causing Onychocryptosis – aka - In-grown Toenail.

Use appropriate toenail clippers, they are designed for larger nails. Plus, they make it easier to properly cut toenails than fingernail clippers. Always disinfect toenail clippers and any other stainless steel or plastic utensils you use on your feet. Wash first with soap and water, then soak in 70% rubbing alcohol for 20 minutes after each use. Allow to air dry, then store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag. This will help prevent the possibility of spreading fungus and infections to yourself & other household members.

Always discard wooden orange sticks & emery boards after each use. The wood harbors bacteria & will pass fungus to others. If you don’t want to discard orange wood sticks & emery boards every time you cut your toenails, invest in stainless steel nail file & cuticle pusher so you can disinfect them after each use.

I’ll stop here for now. If you or someone you know or love suffers with Nail Fungus, come see us. We have an awesome, All Natural Alternative to this nasty problem – 10 Healthy Nails.
